Event Reports > A Salute To Our Veterans
As part of Morecambe Bay Movie Makers' 40th Anniversary celebration, a "Salute to our Veterans" show was presented at Smokey O'Connors, Morecambe. The event was open to the public as well as to all ex servicemen and women.
The scene was set with the stage having regimental standards and a traditional drumhead on display. The show began with the Carnforth town crier, Frank Barton, welcoming the guests of honour the High Sheriff of Lancashire, Suzie Reynolds and the Mayor Cllr Roger Sherlock and the Mayoress Ethel Sherlock. Regimental and British Legion Standards were paraded and placed on the stage, escorted by members of the Ingleton Home Guard.
The narrator for the show, Chris Abram, thanked the veterans for their services during the World War and the conflicts that had happened between then and now. The first movie to be shown was "Poulton 1940s Weekend" made by Morecambe Bay Movie Makers in 2004, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings. This was followed by a selection of wartime propaganda films for recruitment, Make do and mend clubs and Home Guard training.
Following the interval, the second MBMM movie "Victory Weekend" made in 2005 was shown, this covered the heritage weekend in Morecambe commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. The final movie of the night was a compilation of some of the conflicts that our veterans have served in during recent years. As the compilation movie came to an end the standards were taken up and marched out to stirring music and lights to complete the show for the veterans.
