The bells were ringing at Morecambe Bay Movie Makers' weekly meeting, when club member Peter Parker gave a presentation on the way he produces wedding movies. He began by explaining how he started filming weddings twenty-eight years ago with a cine camera and went through the development of equipment and the techniques that have changed over the years. He illustrated his talk with DVD examples of various sequences of weddings from across the region and was able to tell stories of his experiences during the big day for so many couples.

Morecambe Bay Movie Makers moved their weekly meeting to Tuesday for a joint meeting with the Lunesdale Camera Club in Halton. The host club began the evening with a monochrome digital presentation looking at the life of a local sheep farmer through the seasons. This was followed by series of digital images of Ireland from which, following a discussion as to their merits, the audience had to decide which were to be filed and which to be deleted. Following the tea interval, the movie makers showed a selection of movies from around the world and of the local area.

A Grand Day Out - Report

7th March, 2007 - Ken Russell

On 1st March, fifteen members of the club (plus two daffodils and a leek (presented to our Welsh member for St. David's day) climbed aboard a mini bus, hired from Pye Motors of Morecambe, for a trip across the border to Bradford. The purpose of the trip was to visit the National Media Museum. The group arrived at their destination at approximately 10.45am; it would have been earlier if the Hon Sec, who was driving, hadn't stalled the bus twice...

In no time at all, members were swapping sandwiches for an early lunch before disappearing to the far corners of the museum looking at the items on display and having a play with the hands-on exhibits. For all of the members, at least one visit each was made to the IMAX cinema to watch the 3D movies being shown.

At 4.00pm, the return journey started with a pleasant run home (once we managed to find the road out of Bradford...) and the bus was back at Pye Motors for 6.45pm.

Where should we go for our next Grand Day Out? Suggestions welcomed.

The winner was Graeme Isherwood, with a documentary on the murals to be found on buildings in the Poulton area of Morecambe. Second place went to Dave Simpson with a look at how farm drainage systems have changed, combined with "grumpy old men" comments. In third place was Mike Ellis with a travelogue movie of a recent visit to Germany to film and enjoy his passion for steam trains. See the Competition Results Page for full details.

During the second part of the evening members saw, for the first time, a the movie shot on location at the Grand Theatre, with Lancaster Footlight actors performing a comedy quiz show. The movie editing is not quite finished and the credits will be added in the next few weeks.

Plans were discussed for the club's open meeting and movie show to be held on Monday 19th March at 7.30pm in St. Christopher's Church Hall, Bare, for which the proceeds will go the church fund.
